Rebellion at Eureka!

Hello everyone,

I am going to tell you a little bit about the book Rebellion at Eureka!

What is the story about? Where is it set?  What time period is it set in?                    Rebellion at Eureka is about a boy called Alf that goes to the goldfields with his mum. They face a lot of challenges and Alf makes lots of new friends. It is set at the goldfields in Ballarat. The time period was 1854.

How were people treated on the goldfields?                                                                   People on the goldfields were treated very badly. The police think they are the boss of everyone. To mine you had to have a licence to mine. The police went around the tents checking everyone’s licences. If you didn’t have a licence you would get bashed up and fined.

What positive learner attributes did people have to show on the goldfields? Share some examples from the story.                                                                                             Durning the book so many people showed positive learner attributes. Mr Lalor showed great resilience when starting the Eureka stockade (Mr Lalor was the actual man who started the fight in real life). Alf’s mum showed great courage when standing up towards the police.

What jobs did people have on the goldfields? Which job would you like, and why?     The popular jobs men had were mining, and being a blacksmith. The popular jobs women had were washing clothes and sewing. The job I would like to have is shop keeping. I would like that job because i get money from selling people things. I can pay for the shop keeping licence with no struggle because I have a lot of money from people.

I hope you learned a little bit about Rebellion at Eureka!
Have you ever read a book about the gold rush, if so comment on what book you read!

Thats all for now,                                                                                                                  Sarah!

My Splendid Avatar!

Hi everyone,

Today I’m going to show you my avatar! This is my avatar!

I chose a purple and blue background because I love the colours. I have black hair in a ponytail because when I go to school I always wear it up in a ponytail. My hair is medium, which is about a little bit longer than my shoulders. My eyes are dark, dark DARK brown. If I could make my hair parted on the side I would, but I couldn’t. It’s kinda weird I smile with both top and bottom of my teeth, but I like it! Most of the time I get sun burnt because I play a lot of sports. Athletics on a Saturday and soccer on a Sunday, so I don’t get a lot of time on the weekend.

That is my avatar and I hope you like it!

Wonderful library books

Hi everyone!

I’m going to tell you a little about me and reading.

My favourite genres are family and friendship and humour. I like family and friendship because I like reading about friends, and the problems they solve to have a stronger relationship with each other. I like humour because it’s alway good to get a laugh out every once in a while. I like reading humour for pleasure too!

If you like family and friendship I would recommend Pax. I read Pax for book chat. Pax is a wonderful story about a boy (Peter) trying to find his fox (Pax). It’s very sad but you will just shed a tear! If you like humour I would recommend Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It’s so funny and there’s a whole series!

In book chat I’m reading The Boy, the Bird and the Coffin Maker. The genre is family and friendship and I have already finished the book. The Coffin Maker’s name is Alberto, who lives in a town called Allora. Alberto is hiding the boy (Tito) from Tito’s dad. This is a great story. Matilda Woods (the author) has other great books such a the Girl, the Cat and the Navigator.

What’s your favourite genre and have you read any books I have talked about?

CBCA Voting

This term Junior school have been reading than judging the CBCA Eve Pownall books.

The way we vote is we read the book, rate the visuals out of ten then the layout out of ten, and lastly the information out of ten. After you do that you you add up the totals, that is what you voted for. A good non-fiction book includes lots of pictures, the layout is clear and it is detailed, but not information overload. The book I voted for the CBCA Eve Pownall  was……… MAKE BELIEVE by Kate Ryan and M.C. Escher! I liked the book because there were a lot of pictures, not information overload and the layout what very very very good.

Have you ever voted for a CBCA book, if yes what book was it? What did you like about it?

That’s all for now,

Sarah
